Proofreading

  • Quick Check
Have a short document, advertising copy, or social media proof you would like an extra pair of eyes on before submission? This might be what you're looking for: a quick read-through to catch any mistakes or inconsistencies.

  • Proofreading
The final, thorough sweep through the manuscript for any errors, proofreading comes after all other types of editing. Proofreading checks for errors such as typos and improper punctuation, spelling, and capitalization use.

Coaching

Do you feel alone or lost in the world of writing? Not sure how to take your manuscript to the next level? Need some accountability?

I am so excited to offer coaching! We meet on a regular basis--either in person or via video chat--and we chat up your word work. I empower you to set goals, encourage you to keep them (with grace for when life is tough), and read and give feedback on your work on a rotating basis defined by our meet schedule.

Editing

I offer editing on a spectrum, depending on what your manuscript needs and what you as an individual hope to gain from working with me.

  • Readthrough and Feedback/Beta Read
I read your manuscript, in whatever stage it currently exists. I give you general feedback on what I see you can improve, and highlight a few of the weakest and strongest areas of your work.

  • Outline Editing
Ideally, outline editing occurs early in your manuscript process, when you have fleshed-out ideas, but have not yet set those ideas into a framework of sequences that would be difficult and painstaking to rearrange if necessary. A form of developmental editing, outline editing is manuscript bone surgery. I evaluate features such as overarching plot or outline points and communication goals, consider whether your sequencing is logical, and highlight potential logic and storyform pitfalls for you to watch out for while you are further developing your manuscript.

  • Late-Developmental Editing
The partner to outline editing, late-dev editing ideally occurs after, or during, a first draft. This stage analyzes the muscles of your manuscript--for stories, this may mean scene structures and characterizations; for non-story documents, this might be explanations or depth of research.

  • Line Editing
Your words are written, but are they written well? Line editing considers your manuscript sentence by sentence (or, line by line) to improve features such as verb tenses, remove redundant or unnecessary words, clarify speakers and communication points, and correct improper sentence construction or word use.
